“The RAPID 2012 Conference and Exposition started off with a bang with the 3D FABulous Fashion Show, sponsored by Materialise. The runway extravaganza, held in the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta, took place during the opening reception of what is considered by many to be the most important conference in the Additive Manufacturing industry. The final pieces are design that have never been seen before and were selected exclusively for the RAPID fashion show.”

Concept / Design
A scarf or a tie where 3D different geometric motifs are linked in sequence, one after the other, like an arpeggio musical technique. A superposing pattern design increases knitted effect and two inserted open rings allow weave the tie knot.

Process
Designed to be made with Selective Laser Sintering process in polyamide material, the structure is collapsed and folded, getting minimum volume to maximum surface. The mesh avoids superimposing links and keeping clearance between the pieces. The chainmail mixes and joins to use the additive manufacturing potential for smart textiles in fashion applications.
